Book Description
Elsevier's Dictionary of Aquatic Biology contains terms related to marine and freshwater animals and plants and their environment. Terms from general biology and those related to water in some way or another are widely represented. Terms from the following applied fields are included:

Water quality assessment, water purification, biotechnology, aquaculture, and - above all - commercial fisheries, and fish culture. Also included are main terms of laboratory technique and seamanship currently used in texts on fisheries and marine expeditions, as well as names of fishes, mammals, amphibians, waterfowl and water plants, and some geographical names, as far as they present difficulties for translation.

The dictionary stems from the senior author's 40 years of experience as a professional translator and a professional biologist in the field of aquatic animals and plants. The junior author, a specialist in algology and mycology, also participated in all aspects of the compilation of this dictionary.

This dictionary will be a useful tool for translators and scientists dealing with hydrobiology, ecology, oceanology, limnology, ichthyology, fisheries, and other applied fields.
