Book Description
The most successful first edition General Chemistry text published in the last decade, CHEMISTRY: THE MOLECULAR SCIENCE continues in this new edition to emphasize the traditional core concepts covered in the general chemistry course. Lauded for its focus on visualization for understanding in support of students' conceptual development and its dedicated emphasis on content mastery through a proven problem-solving methodology that actively engages students in the chemical thought process, this Second Edition offers a complete pedagogical solution. The text's student focus is extended through General ChemistryNow--the first assessment-centered Web-based learning tool for general chemistry. Developed in concert, the unparalleled integration of text and media provides students with a seamless learning system. Based on extensive user and reviewer feedback, the Second Edition has been significantly revised to meet the content and organizational needs of today's general chemistry classroom. CHEMISTRY: THE MOLECULAR SCIENCE is intended for mainstream general chemistry courses geared toward students who expect to pursue further study in science, engineering, or science-related disciplines.

John W. Moore received an A.B. magna cum laude from Franklin and Marshall College and a Ph.D. from Northwestern University. He held a National Science Foundation postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Copenhagen, and taught at Indiana University-Bloomington and Eastern Michigan University before joining the faculty of the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1989. At the University of Wisconsin Dr. Moore is Professor of Chemistry, Director of the Institute for Chemical Education, and Chair of the General Chemistry Division. In 2000 he was appointed to a named chair, W.T. Lippincott Professor of Chemistry, in honor of his excellence in research in chemical education. Dr. Moore has been Editor of the "Journal of Chemical Education" since 1996. He has won every major award in chemical education, including the ACS George C. Pimentel Award and the James Flack Norris Award. In 2003 he was awarded the Benjamin Smith Reynolds Award for Excellence in Teaching Engineers by the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Engineering. Conrad L. Stanitski retired in 2005 as Professor of Chemistry and Department Chair at the University of Central Arkansas. Currently, he is a visiting Professor of Chemistry at Franklin & Marshall College.
He received his B.S. in Science Education from Bloomsburg State College, an M.A. in Chemical Education from the University of Northern Iowa, and a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Connecticut. Dr. Stanitski is a prolific author and has won many teaching awards, including the CMA CATALYST National Award for Excellence in Chemistry Teaching, the Thomas Branch Award for Teaching Excellence, and the Samuel Nelson Gray Distinguished Professor Award from Randolph-Macon College. Dr. Stanitski was Chair of the Division of Chemical Education during 2001. Peter C. Jurs is Professor of Chemistry at the Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Jurs earned his B.S. in Chemistry from Stanford University in 1965 and his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Washington in 1969. He then joined the faculty of Pennsylvania State University, where he has been Professor of Chemistry since 1978. In 1995 he was awarded the C.I. Noll Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching. Jurs's research interests have included the application of computer methods to chemical and biological problems. Dr. Jurs serves as an elected Councilor for the American Chemical Society Computer Division.
