About the Author
Dr. James P. Birk is a professor of chemistry and biochemistry at Arizona State University at Tempe. His research specialties are chemical education (specifically the development of new experiments and approaches for teaching introductory chemistry, development of microscale laboratory methods, methods for teaching descriptive inorganic chemistry, development of lecture demonstrations, the use of learning cycles in the chemistry curriculum, model-building techniques, student misconceptions, and their alleviation, instructional software design, the use of computers in chemical education and atomic/molecular visualization of chemical processes) as well as inorganic reaction mechanisms, particularly mechanistic studies of inorganic reactions. Pamela Marks is a chemistry instructor at Arizona State University at Tempe.
