Biochemistry: A Manual for Universities
Editorial Reviews
Book Description
This monumental text presents the principles of biochemistry. Biochemistry deals with the substances composing living organisms, and the chemical conversions proceeding within living organisms, or within some of the simplified systems isolated from these organisms. Biochemistry is the foundation for a finer and deeper understanding of the biological events and phenomena inherent in all levels of the organization of living matter; starting from the most primitive cells until the interactions of populations of living organisms between both themselves, and also the environment. In other words, biochemical knowledge is the basis of the mechanistic aspects of nearly all the main biological disciplines: cell biology, physiology of animals and plants, genetics, evolution, and ecology. The borders between each of these disciplines and biochemistry have become more and more diffused since a significant part of biochemical knowledge dissolves into these disciplines.
