Modeling, analysis, design, data acquisition, and control are important activities within the field of

vibration. Computer software tools and environments are available for effectively carrying out, both at

the learning level and at the professional application level. Several such environments and tools are

commercially available.

MATLAB1 is an interactive computer environment with a high-level language and tools for scientific

and technical computation, modeling and simulation, design, and control of dynamic systems.

SIMULINK1 is a graphical environment for modeling, simulation, and analysis of dynamic systems, and

is available as an extension to MATLAB. The Control Systems Toolbox of MATLAB is suitable in the

analysis, design, and control of mechanical vibrating systems.
